Role Description
As a Senior UX Design Lead, you will own the strategic and creative direction of design across our enterprise web and custom projects, and lead the design pod that delivers it. Your core value is the strategic thinking: you take client research, inputs, and goals and turn them into a clear direction that guides the whole project. You set the standard and you are accountable for the pod's output. Depending on project size, you'll also take on hands-on execution yourself, so comfort moving between strategy and craft matters.
You'll present design thinking directly to clients as a trusted advisor, set the direction your designers execute against, and own the through-line from client requirements to delivered build so nothing falls through the gap between design and development. You'll work closely with our project managers and developers to keep design central to how work ships.
This is a contract engagement, scaled to project need. You operate at a senior level that needs little oversight and holds our white-glove quality bar. Fully remote and open to candidates anywhere, overlapping at least half of your working hours with Eastern Time for client and team collaboration.
What You'll Do
Strategy & Direction
You will lead discovery, research, and information architecture, and set the design direction for each project. You'll define what good looks like, with accessible design built in as a baseline, and hold that standard across everything the pod produces.
Client Leadership
You will present design and strategic recommendations directly in client meetings as the senior design voice. Clients will trust the thinking, not just the visuals, and you'll own the design relationship end to end.
Leading the Design Pod
You will direct and review the designers in your pod, set their briefs, and own the quality of their output. You'll hold the requirements through-line as a standard, so every client requirement is captured in writing, reflected in the design, and verifiable at QA, and you'll keep handoffs clean enough that developers build without coming back.
AI in the Workflow
You will use AI to accelerate concepts, asset variation, and requirements drafting, keeping design judgment, client strategy, and the final direction with you.
Qualifications
Craft, Strategy & Leadership
You bring 8+ years of senior UX/UI design for web applications and custom projects, and a track record of leading design work that others execute. You are strong across the UX core (research, information architecture, wireframes, user flows) and fluent in UI and design systems. You work in Figma, you understand headless and component-based builds, and you design in reusable, systematized components. You understand accessibility (WCAG) and build it into the direction you set. You set direction, define standards, and are comfortable being accountable for a team's output. You document requirements in writing as standard practice.
Client & Communication
You have multi-industry experience and lead client-facing meetings with strategic recommendations. You're a vision-caster who shapes direction, not only responds to a brief. You work closely with project managers and developers. You do what you say and own the gaps, you anticipate what's needed, you carry low ego, and you're both kind and direct.
Strong Assets
Familiarity with our stack conventions (Storyblok, Contentful, Agility), experience establishing or extending design systems at scale, and a history of leading or mentoring other designers are strong assets.
Education
A degree in design, HCI, or a related field is a plus. A senior portfolio and a track record of strategic, client-facing design leadership matter more.
